What I Learned This Year

This is a first.

This is the first post I’ve created with NO VIDEO. Here’s why…

2010 has taught me many things about internet marketing. One of the most powerful lessons was really the first lesson I learned…

CONTENT IS KING.

If you provide great content, the market will respond. They figure out how to get to your site, the search engines will figure out how to tell others about you, your social network will work itself into a froth to help you spread the word.

If I take an honest, very hard look at my own actions this year I see a great start… but a poor finish. In the beginning I was doing a lot more sharing… producing content geared toward how to learn internet marketing. Toward the end of the year I’d gotten away from that. I’ve actually created some really cool stuff (Student Study Skills) and have completely missed the boat by letting everyone know what’s going on (and how I did it)!  I’ll be catching everyone up in 2011… I promise!

I’ve also learned that videos are great… but do take time. I’ve often missed posting on this blog because I didn’t find the time for video. Right now, I’m writing this from a Starbucks. They put up with my most weekend mornings and I don’t think recording video would be such a great idea here. (Though… maybe…)

That’s why I’ve opened up my own restrictions on the posts on this site. If I find a great link, tool to share or just have some useful thoughts I’ll post them… video or no.

Rest assured, this blog will still be chock full of internet marketing videos and screencasts… just not every post.

2011 is the year I break from depending on my day job income.  It’s a major goal and I want to be sure that everyone is able to witness how I did it.

I learned another very powerful lesson about internet marketing.

It still relates a bit to the content thing and the lesson is this…

Help others in whatever way you can.  If you provide others (your network) whatever you can (your content) you’ll be amazed at the results.  As many readers will know, just a few short months ago I was on Facebook, browsing Chris Farrell’s page when he asked for help as he did a quick “dress rehearsal” for the AffiliateDotCom launch.  I had nothing to offer, but I could help with that!  Going to that chat room radically altered my life in ways that I still am discovering.  Without that simple action I would have never met Chris Farrell, Mike Filsaime, John Chow and a gaggle of other gurus!  Without meeting those gurus I would never have met my Mastermind group and without them I wouldn’t be taking action where I am today.

In short, 2010 taught me, “Do whatever you can to provide whatever you can.”

I’m expecting that YOU expect great things from me in 2011.  But I’m curious… what has 2010 taught you?
